Christmas Cards

Part of the fun of Christmas is getting cards with stories and pictures from old friends and new.  I love to open a card and see pictures of children of friends I can not see often or stories about the year after we have lost touch for awhile.  In the quest to join the millions sending cute pictures of their kids, of course thinking that mine are the cutest I started early this year trying to get the PERFECT picture for all to see!

I am sure many of you are laughing right now as you can relate.  So, I started in October,  got the kids dressed (ages 3 and 1) and was determined to get a cute fall picture.... Ha!
Many of you saw my fist attempt that I posted on face book http://tinyurl.com/ylcajg9!  This one was taken with strict instructions to my 3 year old to throw the leaves high into the air so they fall beautifully out of the sky around you and your sister so I can have a beautiful fall picture of my happy kids playing..... KOBOOOOM!!!  Wack your sister with leaves is of course what my 3 yr old heard.

And in my infinite wisdom I asked him to do it again..........

and again thinking somehow he would get it and stop wanting to pummel his sister!

OK..... Soooooo on to plan B.  If you smile nice and sit down I won't make you go into church today....  oops, sorry going in!

Well, it is now 2 weeks before Christmas and my quest for the perfect picture of my perfect children is going to have to end and we'll go with what we have.  To all of the parents out there who can sympathize as they try to get pictures of their "perfect" kids I wish you luck on your Christmas card too.

Of course our real Christmas card picture will remain a secret until you open it up.

Kiva

Well, I finally did something I have been planning on doing for years!

I just made a loan to someone in Senegal through Kiva (http://www.kiva.org/).
I am excited at the process and plan to continue to read stories of people in developing countries seeking out funds to be paid back to further their small businesses.
Our first loan was tiny to evaluate the process but we hope to begin to give more once we have been through the process.

We'll let you know how it goes and send updates on the woman from Senegal that we chose.
I will post a picture later as I keep getting errors when I try to post a picture to this entry.

Here is some information about lending on Kiva.

You can go to Kiva's website and lend to someone across the globe who needs a loan for their business - like raising goats, selling vegetables at market or making bricks. Each loan has a picture of the entrepreneur, a description of their business and how they plan to use the loan so you know exactly how your money is being spent - and you get updates letting you know how the entrepreneur is going. The best part is, when the entrepreneur pays back their loan you get your money back - and Kiva's loans are managed by microfinance institutions on the ground who have a lot of experience doing this, so you can trust that your money is being handled responsibly.
I just made a loan to an entrepreneur named Sona Badji in Senegal. They still need another $125.00 to complete their loan request of $475.00 (you can loan as little as $25.00!). Help me get this entrepreneur off the ground by clicking on the link below to make a loan to Sona Badji too:
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=148149
It's finally easy to actually do something about poverty - using Kiva I know exactly who my money is loaned to and what they're using it for. And most of all, I know that I'm helping them build asustainable business that will provide income to feed, clothe, house and educate their family long after my loan is paid back.
Join me in changing the world - one loan at a time.
Thanks!

More pregnancy fun! Right on schedule, 2 weeks ahead

Right on schedule, 2 weeks ahead

As I type this I am 33, going on 35 weeks, pregnant. Yes, you read that correctly. From the first measurements taken of this baby girl, I’ve been told we’re “right on schedule, 2 weeks ahead.” There is no denying that this baby is a big one-as demonstrated by the 46 (FORTY-SIX!!) pounds I’ve gained up to this point. I have always been in good physical shape with very few weight issues but it is completely amazing to me that I have had absolutely NO control over my body over the past almost 9 months. She is already in charge and she’s not even here yet! I think I am even more fascinated that size truly doesn’t seem to matter!! I mean, how is it possible that my due date has never changed? If baby girl is 2 weeks bigger than she “should” be, then my due date should be 2 weeks sooner than originally thought, right? WRONG! I’ve decided her stats are meant simply to wreak havoc on my already over active imagination. I have visions of going full term and giving birth to a baby who is able to walk out of the womb- a 6’3”, 250 lb. girl who is the spitting image of her father! Oh, the things you can think!! And this is just the beginning….

A note from my mom

Two years ago, my daughter started her own organic baby clothing line. This adventure developed for two reasons. The obvious reason was to stay home with her one year old son and the second reason was to bring an organic cotton baby product to the market place that interested a new generation of concerned, eco-friendly families. Many lessons have been learned about starting a business alone with a family and about a bio-chem major turning into a business student on her own. Cheers to an adventure and its ups and downs....cheers to determination... and most of all CHEERS to the idea of making baby clothing out of certified organic cotton. This special process helps this earth stay healthy in so many ways. Yea to sustainable farming practices......it's not all about money. Go frenchybabyorganics!!!
